How do you prepare your children for a threat?

Derrick McManus says his greater concern is for his children, so he has talked them through how they might feel and respond if the man who shot him meets them.

McManus describes the man who shot him as erratic and opportunistic, acting in the moment in ways nobody could predict, and then separates the threat to himself from the threat to his family.

On his account the preparation runs both ways. When his own mind goes out of control, his children lecture him with what he teaches and pull him back into line every time.
